About Chris Wood
Chris Wood is a former world class rally co-driver injured in a mountain bike accident last year.
Burnley-born Chris, who now lives in an adaptive home in Huddersfield close to his four children, is the son of
famous 1940s – 1960s co-driver Mike Wood. Chris himself was a co-driver alongside Alister McRae and other
notable drivers, many of whom are expected to attend the ball.
Chris, who worked with Ford, Peugeot and Volkswagen racing teams during his career as a co-driver, was rendered
tetraplegic following the accident – which took place before he was due to take part in a charity bike ride – with
little or no movement below the neck.
After raising £40,000 to fund his own treatment to regain arm movement and lead an independent life, Chris set
his sights on raising £100,000 to help others with spinal injuries all over the UK do the same.
His vision is to help himself and others with spinal injuries live a better life through rehabilitation, physio and
cutting edge technical equipment. He is already halfway through his fundraising challenge – and he hopes the
Rally Drivers’ Ball and fundraising events will prove to be a crucial boost for the appeal.
